Scholarships for Engineering Students – There are many scholarships that are awarded to Engineering Students by the Government of India, private institutes and by NGOs. The motive behind each of these scholarships is to promote the quality of education in the engineering field.

Merit cum Means Scholarships

MOMA Scholarship- Merit cum Means Scholarship

The Merit cum Means Scholarship is awarded by the Ministry of Minority Affairs, Government of India for engineering students of India. The scholarship is specially allocated for the National Minority Community of India; Muslims, Sikhs, Zoroastrians, Buddhists, Christians, Jains and Parsis. This merit cum means scholarship is allocated to more than 20,000 students.

The scholarship is only meant for those students whose family income is less than Rs 2.5 lacs and has been enrolled in some engineering college. The awardee of the scholarship is paid Rs 10,000 per year (Rs. 5000 for day scholars) and the course fee. For admission to colleges like IITs and NITs the full course fee is compensated for the students studying.

Indian Oil Academic Scholarship (IOCL)

The Indian Oil offers a scholarship for engineering students who have taken admission in the college. This is also a merit cum means scholarship which is aimed for helping students who have an annual income less than Rs 1 lakh. The scholarship is said to give preference to those students whose annual income is less than Rs 60,000.

As many as 300 students are selected by the Indian Oil for being awarded the scholarship in engineering. The ones who are selected for the IOCL are given Rs 3000 per month for 4 years. The Indian oil also announces scholarships for the students of Class 10/ ITI, MBBS and MBA students under the scholarship scheme.

Central Sector Scholarship Scheme for College and University Students

The Central Sector Scholarship Scheme is a scholarship designed for the students of the College and University and is awarded by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). A staggering amount of 82,000 scholarships are given for the students wanting to take admission in Undergraduate Courses in Indian Universities and are eligible for the scholarship. The scholarship is offered to 41,000 boys and girls, each.

The engineering students who are selected under the Central Sector Scholarship Scheme are awarded Rs 1000 per month for 3 years and Rs 2,000 per month in the fourth year.

Merit Based Scholarships

OP Jindal Engineering and Management Scholarship (OPJEMS)

The OP Jindal Engineering and Management scholarship (OPJEMS) is a scholarship scheme for the engineering students which is awarded by the O.P. Jindal Group companies and was started in 2007. There are as many as 100 scholarships given out each year to the students from 40 engineering and management institutions. There is an online test which needs to be undertaken by the shortlisted students in order to qualify for the scholarship.

The engineering and management students selected under the OP Jindal Engineering and Management scholarship (OPJEMS) receive Rs 80,000 as scholarship.

IET India Scholarship

The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) offers scholarships to the second and third year engineering students of India. The scholarship which is worth Rs 8 lakhs is awarded to the shortlisted students of India.

In order to qualify for the IET India Scholarship the students have to appear for several rounds of selection. This selection procedure for the prestigious scholarship includes an online test also.

Nationwide Education and Scholarship Test (NEST)

The Nationwide Education and Scholarship Test (NEST Scholarships) are organized for Degree Students of Science, Engineering and Medical Courses. The students applying for the application need to students of Indian Colleges and Universities. There are at least 10 or more scholarships worth Rs 25,000/- to Rs 50,000/- awarded to students.

SEMCI INDIA conducts a Nationwide Education and Scholarship Test (NEST) on the last Sunday of January every year for the purpose of selecting students based on an online merit test.
