Charles Wallace India Trust Long Term Scholarships 2018


Charles Wallace India Trust invites applications for Long-Term Scholarships 2018-19 from mid-career practitioners or graduates who are willing to gain wider exposure and experience in the fields of Heritage Conservation and Arts


Charles Wallace India Trust long term offers every year up to 10 long term awards, aiming at giving early to mid career practitioners a chance to study or gain wider experience and exposure. The balance between Arts and Heritage Conservation varies from year to year depending on demand and performance at interview


The awards, which are generally from 2–3 months up to a maximum of a year, cover accommodation and living costs in the UK, fees and a contribution to international fares. CWIT does not support two-year courses

In over 30 years CWIT has made around 2700 grants. British Council India advises on CWIT’s work and gives valuable administrative support including guidance on applying for a visa


Fields of study covered


Art History; Curating; Design (not architecture) ; Photography; Film (including direction and script writing); Performance such as Directing, Music, Drama, Dance; Visual Arts


Heritage Conservation

Site or heritage projects management; Conservation architecture; Landscape conservation; Museums and collections management; Material conservation such as metal, stone, timber, photographs, paintings, film and photographs; Engineering relating to conservation of structures and heritage buildings.



The applicant should:

Be an Indian citizen living in India

Be aged between 25 and 38

Have a first degree, diploma or professional qualification in their specialization. CWIT prefers applicants with significant working experience

Have not received a CWIT grant within the last five years


Selection Process

Applicants are shortlisted on the basis of their applications and will be invited to the British Council for an interview of about 30 minutes in New Delhi in February 2018. The panels of Indian experts are chaired by CWIT

Results of the interviews are announced in early April



Eligible candidates can apply for the scholarship in person at any of the nearest British Council centres in India through following steps:

Read the eligibility criteria and application guidelines carefully

Fill in all required details

Prepare a statement of purpose, in not more than 2 pages, clearly stating the course opt for in the UK and the plan of the candidate

Attach IELTS Certificate and an evidence of unconditional acceptance to the course/program. Also, submit a portfolio in hard copy or CD/DVD format (if applicable)

Submit all documents along with the application form in person at any of the British Council Centres in India
