Section A: Reading Comprehension 
1. a. One unseen passage with a variety of Objective Type Questions, including MCQs and SAQs.
Passage length 200 – 250 words.
Two MCQs and eight one-line questions shall be asked from this passage. 
10×1=10 marks 
b. Unseen passage.
Passage length 150 – 200 words.
2 M.C.Qs, 2 single-line comprehension questions, one question on fill in the blank, one question on match the words

Section B: Writing Skills, Grammar & Translation
2.  Precis writing (passage of about 150 words)  4 marks 
3.  Letter writing (only official/ business / to the Editor/ Applications) (one out of any two)  6 marks 
4.  Explaining Newspaper Headlines (15-20 words)/ E-mail writing  3 marks
5. a. Translation from English to Punjabi/Hindi (2 sentences out of 3)    2 marks
b. Translation from Punjabi/Hindi to English (2 sentences out of 3)  2 marks
6. Grammar items:  10 Marks
a. Determiners 3 Marks
b.  Use of Non-finites (Infinitives, Gerunds, Participles) 2 Marks
c. Transformation of Sentences (2 out of 3) 2 Marks
d. Voice (2 out of 3) 2 Marks
e. Narration (1 out of 2)   1 Mark
Section C: Literature Textbooks 
7.  It will consist of 10 objective type questions carrying one mark each. Objective type questions may include four questions with one word to one sentence answer, two fill in the blanks and four multiple choice type questions.

8.  a. Comprehension question on a given stanza from poetry (4 out of 5 questions including a question on name of the poet/poem/ Rhyme scheme / Simile / Metaphor / Personification/ Alliteration/ Imagery etc).(1 out of two given stanzas to be attempted)  4 marks
b. Central idea of poem (1 out of 2.)  3 marks
9. Three (out of five) short answer questions of about 20 to 30 words from Lessons for Intensive study  3×2=6 marks
10. Two (out of three) short answer questions of about 20 to 30 words from Lessons for Extensive study.  2×2=4 marks
11. Long answer type questions (100 to 120 words) on theme, incident, content, character etc. from Lessons for Intensive study (with internal choice)  5 marks 
12. Long answer type question (100 to 120 words) from Lessons for Extensive study on Character/incident/theme etc (with internal choice).  5 marks
