Merit-cum-means Based Scholarship Scheme for Minority Communities Studies

Applications are invited from students belonging to minority communities (Sikh, Muslim, Christian, Buddhist, Parsi) notified by the govt of India of domicile of Punjab state who are pursuing technical or professional under graduate/post graduate level courses in an institution recognized by an appropriate authority for merit-cum-means based scholarship for the year 2010-11 to be awarded by the ministry of minority affairs, govt of India in the prescribed format of fresh and renewal (i.e. 2007-08, 2008-09 and 2009-10)

Eligibility criteria/conditions for scholarship: Financial assistance will be given to pursue degree and/or post graduate level technical and professional courses from a recognized institution

Students who get admission to a college to pursue technical/professional courses, on the basis of a competitive examination will be eligible for the scholarship

Students, who get admission in technical/professional courses without facing any competitive examination, will also be eligible for scholarship. However such students should have not less than 50% marks at higher secondary/graduation level. Selection of these students will be done strictly on merit basis

A scholarship holder under this scheme will not avail any other scholarship/stipend for pursuing the course

The annual income of the beneficiary/parent or guardian of beneficiary should not exceed Rs 2.50 lakh from all sources

Applicant should be domicile of Punjab state

The list of such graduate and post graduate technical and professional courses for which scholarship could be sanctioned under this scheme are as follows

Engineering and Technology courses (B.Tech/B.E./M.Tech), Cement Technology, Fashion Technology (B.F.Tech., M.F. Tech), Management Pharmacy (PH) (M.Pharma), Architecture and Town Planning, Hotel Management and Catering Technology, Applied Arts and Craft, MCA, Design (Degree from national institute of Design, Ahmedabad), Medical and Para Medical courses, Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry, Chartered Accountancy/Institute of Cost and Work Accountancy/Company Secretary, law

Students studying in 70 listed national level institutions by GOI, ministry of minority affairs will be entitled to reimbursement of full course fee

Students studying in other recognized institutes will be entitled as under

Maintenance allowance (for 10 months only), rate for hosteller Rs 10,000 per annum (Rs 1000/- p.m.); rate of day scholars Rs 5,000 per annum (Rs 500/- pm)

Course fee, rate for hosteller Rs 20,000 per annum or actual whichever is less, rate of day scholars Rs 20,000 per annum or actual whichever is less

The list of fresh and renewal students should be sent separately along with applications in the proforma prescribed by govt of India in excel form, in the shape of hard and soft copy

The head of institutions will also certify that all students included in the proposal are eligible as per the norms of the scheme and no eligible student has been left out

Incomplete applications and applications received directly from the students will not be entertained

Applications complete in all respects of eligible students of domicile of Punjab, studying in any institution should reach through Head of the Institution in a single lot in the office of Director, Welfare Punjab, SCO no 128-129, Sector 34-A, Chandigarh by 31.07.2010
