Midwest Food Processors Award Scholarships

Both scholarships offer up to three $1,500 scholarships (total of six) to deserving undergraduate students who are majoring in agriculture or food science within the University of Wisconsin system (currently Madison, Platteville and River Falls)

Each student needs to complete only one application and required financial forms to apply for both the Carleton A. Friday and Kenneth G. Weckel scholarships

They are: Lauren Brzozowski of Madison, Wisconsin, Abbey Thiel from Howards Grove, Wisconsin and Katie Walters of Hartford, Wisconsin

The MWFPA also selected the following three students, who are attending the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, to each receive $1,500 from the Kenneth G. Weckel/MWFPA Scholarship Fund for the 2013-14 school years

Paige Roberts of New London, Minnesota, Valarie Kramer from St. Cloud, Wisconsin, and Kody Guden from Edgar, Wisconsin

The two scholarship programs were created by the MWFPA in honor of leaders in the food processing industry

The Kenneth G. Weckel Scholarship is named for a University of Wisconsin food science professor who contributed greatly to the advancement of vegetable and fruit processing through his research and teaching

The scholarship winners have been invited to attend the MWFPA’s 109th Annual Convention and 86th Food Processing Crops Conference, one of the largest and most established food processing gatherings in the Midwest

It will be held: 03rd December, 2013 Tuesday and 05th December, 2013, Thursday through at the Wisconsin Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin

MWFPA is made up of food processors and their vendors in Illinois, Minnesota and Wisconsin

Midwest Food Processors Association Scholarship

The Midwest Food Processors Scholarship awards up to six $2,000 (depending on availability of funds) scholarships to deserving children of parents or guardians who are employees of MWFPA member companies and are a high school senior or post-secondary student accepted into, or attending any post-secondary school, in the United States

A post-secondary school means an institution of higher education including a vocational and technical college, two-and four-year colleges and private trade schools

Winning applicants may attend these schools with any major of study

The Midwest Food Processors Association is the foremost voice of the food processing industry in the Midwest

The association lobbies on legislative and regulatory matters; promotes safe food processing practices; investigates new technologies; funds industry research; and plans industry events

It represents over 100 processing facilities in Wisconsin, Illinois and Minnesota

Applications for the two scholarship programs are available beginning in February each year and can be obtained from the MWFPA by calling 608-255-9946 or going to its website at www.mwfpa.org
