Italian Institute for Historical Studies offers 15 PhD Scholarships for Italian and Foreign Students in Italy 2018

IISS PhD Scholarships 2018 – The Italian Institute for Historical Studies has established up to 15 PhD scholarships program for young graduates and PhD students for the academic year 2018-19

These scholarships are available for both Italian and foreign students. Applicants whose first language is not English are usually required to provide evidence of proficiency in English at the higher level required by the University.

  • Course Level: Scholarships are available for young graduates and PhD students
  • Study Subject: Scholarships are awarded in historical, philosophical and literary subjects

Important Dates

  • Last Date for Online Registration for Scholarship is 31st July 2018
  • The Scholarship will be paid to the successful candidates in 12 monthly instalments starting from November 2018
Scholarship Award
  • The Italian Institute for Historical Studies announces the competition to the following annual scholarships for young graduates and research doctors, Italians and foreigners, in historical, philosophical and literary subjects, for further research:
  • 14 scholarships of € 12.000,00 each (if the candidate is resident in the Campania region the amount of the scholarship is € 9.70000)
  • 1 “Federico II” scholarship of € 10.300,00 funded by the University Study Napoli for graduates from Italian universities whose final dissertation was in Medieval Studies

Eligibility Criteria

  • Candidates must be less than 32 years old by the date of 31st July 2018 (born after 01st August 1986);
  • Graduates and PhD must have discussed their final university dissertation before the deadline (31st July 2018);
  • Applications from candidates who already received a scholarship from the Institute will not be accepted. Applications from candidates who, starting from 01st November 2018, will receive payments from another type of activity or will be carrying out a funded PHD Program or another funded research project will also be excluded

Application Form

  • The applications form (available at www.iiss.it) must be received duly filled in and signed no later than 31st July 2018 (postal dates will not be accepted) together with the following documents:
    • Copy of the identity card or passport
    • Curriculum studiorum, including linguistic competences (speaking and comprehending Italian is mandatory)
    • PhD certificate or Degree certificate showing marks for individual exams. For non-Italians an equivalent degree certificate is required
    • Copy of the graduation or PhD dissertation and of published or draft works, both in hard copy and digital file
    • Research project (max. 5 pages) including aims, timing, materials and the other institutions where the research can be carried out
    • Academic letters of reference
  • The scholarship will be paid to the successful candidates in twelve monthly instalments starting from November 2018
