Bridging Scholarships 2016 for Study Abroad in Japan

Applications are invited for Bridging Scholarships for Study Abroad in Japan 2016.These scholarships are meant for students who will participate in semester or yearlong study abroad programs in Japan beginning in Fall 2016. Students from USA can apply for these bridging scholarships

The American Association of Teachers of Japanese is a non-profit, non-political organization of individuals and institutions seeking to promote the study of Japanese language, linguistics, literature, culture, and pedagogy, at all levels of instruction

Course Level

Scholarships are available to undergraduate students for participating in semester- or year-long study-abroad programs in Japan

Study Subject: Scholarships are awarded in any field of study

Scholarship Award

Bridging Scholarship recipients receive a stipend of $2,500 (for students on semester-long programs) or $4,000 (for students on academic year programs). Students studying in Japan on summer programs are not eligible to apply

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet all of the following criteria to be eligible to apply for this Scholarship:
Undergraduate students majoring in any field of study are eligible to apply for these scholarships. Japanese language study is not a prerequisite. Applicants must be U.S. citizens and must be enrolled as undergraduates in a college or university in the United States before and during the time they are studying abroad. Their study in Japan must last for at least 3 months and must earn credit that will transfer to their home campus in the US

How to Apply

Applications for study in Japan beginning in Fall 2016 should be submitted to AATJ by the deadline of 08th April 2016

Please submit the following to the AATJ office: An application form can be downloading from this website (www.aat.org/studybroad/scholarships.html)

A printed application can be requested from the AATJ office by phone, fax, or e-mail

A short essay (up to 500 words) introducing yourself, explaining your interest in study in Japan, and outlining what you hope to achieve by participating in a study abroad program (three copies); an official transcript from your college or university
