Hornby Scholarships 2015

The A.S.Hornby Educational Trust is a charity registered in the UK. It was founded in 1961 by A.S.Hornby with funds earned from the publication of the Oxford Advanced Learners’ Dictionary, which he created.

The Trust’s aim is to support the teaching of English as a foreign language worldwide

The Hornby Trust is calling for applications for one long term scholarship for one year MA in English Language teaching at Warwick University in the UK.

The selection will be on a South Asia regional basis, and applications need to be in by 30 January 2015

Eligibility Criteria for Hornby Scholarships 2015

Candidates should have successfully completed an undergraduate degree course equivalent to a Bachelors Degree in the UK (certification must be provided as part of each candidate’s application)

Have at least five years’ hands-on and direct experience as an English language teacher/teacher trainer (as opposed to experience only in a management role, such as co-ordinating policy or running a school)

Have been involved in some sort of developmental work as trainers or managers

Have attained an overall minimum Band score 6.5 on the International English Language Testing Service (IELTS), with no less than 6 in any of the categories

Only applications for full time UK based ELT Masters courses are eligible for Hornby Trust funding

Application Process

The application submission deadline is 30th January 2015

No applications will be accepted after this date

Download and complete the application form and declaration of health from the Downloads area below and attach the following documentation:

a) two supporting references – one must be from your current employer

b) certified copies of degree certificates/transcripts where relevant

c) a full up-to-date Curriculum Vitae (CV)

Applications not supported by the required documentation will not be considered

Those wishing to apply for the scholarship should complete the application form and return it to [email protected] by 30th January 2015

Shortlisted candidates from India will be interviewed in the week beginning 16th February 2015. Final selection is then made regionally including candidates from all South Asia countries

Please note that the candidate must not communicate directly with the UK institution, other than to request information on that university’s courses
