Students start Social Media Campaign, demands postponement of JEE Main and NEET 2020
Students across the country have started social media campaigns and demanded the government to postpone the JEE Main and NEET 2020 Exam scheduled to be held in September. The students taking to twitter have been requesting the Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank to postpone the exam date for these Entrance exams further amid COVID-19 outbreak, posing risk to their health.
Earlier, the exams were scheduled to take place in July but were postponed till September after the Education Ministry took into account concerns of students amid the coronavirus pandemic.
The JEE Main is now scheduled to be held from September 1 to 6, 2020 while NEET UG 2020 is slated for September 13, 2020.
National General Secretary of the All India Students’ Association (AISA) Sandeep Saurav, said on social media that, “Exams in any form are a threat during this Covid-19 outbreak. We reject (the) discriminatory mode of education in toto.”
“With India crossing the 16 lakh benchmark in corona cases, the government wants to conduct exams instead of trying to put a full stop to the pandemic. Stop putting a question mark about student’s safety and start working in the best interest of students,” Anulekha Boosa, National Secretary of the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), said.
Another student shared a caricature that shows what threat conducting exams during COVID-19 brings in and wrote, “Please don’t make this caricature as reality of Indian students.”
