GATE 2021 Exam Dates Announced, Two New Subjects Introduced and Relaxation in Eligibility criteria

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay has announced the dates for Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2021. Keeping the present COVID-19 pandemic situation in mind, the exam has been spread out over a longer duration and will be held on 5th, 6th, 7th, 12th, 13th and 14th February 2021.

The 2021 edition of GATE came with new changes including the opportunity for students to appear for more than one subject from the prescribed set of combinations. Two new papers – Environmental Science & Engineering and Humanities & Social Science have also been introduced, making the total number of subjects to 27. 

GATE 2021 – Relaxation in Eligibility Criteria

Eligibility Criteria have also been relaxed to give more students the opportunity to appear for the examination. The eligibility criteria to appear in the exam have been reduced from a minimum of 10+2+4 (ongoing) to 10+2+3 (ongoing). 

This means, students who are in their third year of undergraduate program can also apply for GATE 2021, this will provide an additional opportunity to candidates to improve their performance to secure better career options.

The changes have been made by the organizing team led by Professors Deepankar Choudhury, Upendra Bhandarkar and Mohd. Aslam of IIT Bombay.

The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an all-India examination conducted jointly by Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore and  seven Indian Institutes of Technology (at Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras, and Roorkee) on behalf of the National Coordinating Board (NCB). 

It is conducted for admission into Masters Programs in Engineering/Technology/Architecture and  Direct Doctoral Program in relevant branches of Science  offered at IITs, IISc, NITs, GFTIs and other Universities in India
