CBSE introduces 20 marks internal assessment in Class 12 Mathematics

CBSE introduces 20 marks internal assessment for class 12th Mathematics – The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is continuously into encouragement of creative and critical thinking among students. For the same, CBSE has revised it’s assessment and evaluation practices. CBSE will now change its current Pattern and incorporate practical component of at least 20 marks in subjects like mathematics from the academic year ahead. This move comes after the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) decided to participate in PISA, 2021 ( Program for International Student Assessment).

Another reason for these changes in assessment and evaluation practices was the poor performance of class 10th students in National Assessment Survey (2017-18), which indicated that the performance of CBSE class 10 students in Science, mathematics, social science, English and modern Indian language is 51, 52, 53, 58 and 62 respectively; all figures being in percentage. However, the survey places CBSE students above national average, but, still there is huge scope of improvement in the performance.

Till now, CBSE conducted examination of 100 marks for subjects like Math and political science etc. Now, at least 20 marks component will be for practical and internal assessment part. Moreover, board exam paper will have objective questions of minimum 25% of the total marks. This will help in improvement of critical thinking in students. Subjective questions Will comprise at most 75% of the total marks, giving students enough time to think in analytical manner. These proposed changes will be implemented from the upcoming academic year i.e. 2019-20.
