UPSC Indian Forest Service Exam 2024 – The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has released the application forms for Indian Forest Service (IFS) Exam 2024 to recruit officers into Forest services across the country. The number of vacancies to be filled through this recruitment exam is expected to be approximately 150. The Commission will hold a Screening Test for selection to Indian Forest Service (Main) Examination, 2024 through Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination, 2024 slated to be held on 26th May 2024.

Eligibility Criteria for UPSC IFS 2024
Nationality
- A candidate must either be:
- a citizen of India, or
- a subject of Nepal, or
- a subject of Bhutan, or
- a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before 01st January 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India or;
- a person of Indian origin (PIO) who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Srilanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India
- Provided that a candidate belonging to categories (b), (c), (d) and (e) shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Govt. of India
Educational Qualifications
- A candidate must hold a Bachelor’s degree with at least one of the subjects namely Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science, Botany, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics and Zoology or a Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Forestry or in Engineering of any of Universities incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification
UPSC IFS 2024 Age Limit
- A candidate must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 32 years on 1st August, 2024, i.e. he must have been born not earlier than 2nd August 1992 and not later than 1st August, 2003.
- Candidates must have been born not earlier than 02/08/1990 and not later than 01/08/2024
Age Relaxation
- Relaxation in the upper age limit for different categories such as SC, ST, OBC, PWD is as under.
- Schedule Caste/Scheduled Tribe (SC/ST) – 05 years
- Other Backward Classes (OBC) – 03 years
- Persons with Disabilities (PwD) – 10 years
- Persons with Disabilities (PwD) + OBC – 13 years
- Persons with Disabilities (PwD) + SC / ST – 15 years
Number of Attempts
- The maximum number of attempts restricted for candidates are as follows:
- General Candidates: 06 attempts
- SC/ST Candidates: No restriction
- Other Backward Classes: 09 attempts
- Physically handicapped: 09 attempts for general and OBC, while unlimited for SC/ST
UPSC IFS 2024 Application Process
- Candidates are required to apply online using the link www.upsconline.nic.in for Civil Services (Preliminary) Exam, which will act as a screening mechanism for selection of candidates for the Indian Forest Service (Main) Exam.
- Candidates applying (accepting Female/SC/ST/PwBD candidates who are exempted from payment of fee) for Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination are required to pay a fee of Rs.100/- (Rupees One Hundred only) either by depositing the money in any Branch of SBI by cash, or by using net banking facility of State Bank of India or by using Visa/Master/RuPay Credit/Debit card/UPI Payment or by using Internet Banking of any Bank
- Applicants who opt for “Pay by Cash” mode should print the system generated Pay-in-slip during part II registration and deposit the fee at the counter of SBI Branch on the next working day only. “Pay by Cash” mode will be deactivated at 23.59 hours of 04.03.2024 i.e. one day before the closing date; however applicants who have generated their Pay-in-Slip before it is deactivated may pay at the counter of SBI Branch during banking hours on the closing date. Such applicants who are unable to pay by cash on the closing i.e. during banking hours at SBI Branch, for reasons whatsoever, even if holding valid pay-in-slip will have no other offline option but to opt for available online Debit/Credit Card or Internet Banking payment mode on the closing date i.e. till 18:00 hours of 05.03.2024
- For the applicant in whose case payments details have not been received from the bank, they will be treated as fictitious payment cases and a list of all such applicants shall be made available on the Commission’s website within two weeks after the last day of submission of Online Application. These applicants shall also be intimated through e-mail to submit copy of proof of their payment to the Commission at the address mentioned in the email
- The applicant shall be required to submit the proof within 10 days from the date of such communication either by hand or by speed post to the Commission.
- In case, no response is received from the applicant, their application shall be summarily rejected and no further correspondence shall be entertained in this regard.
General Instruction
- Candidates can apply Online by visiting the official UPSC website upsconline.nic.in.
- The online application form contains two-stage viz. Part I & Part II and Candidates are required to complete both parts.
- Register using a valid and active Email Id for registration.
- The Online Applications (Part I and II) can be filled up to 14th Feb 2024 till 6:00 PM.
- Candidates should upload the required documents in the prescribed format.
Documents Required
- Photo ID viz. Aadhar Card / Voter Card / PAN Card / Passport / Driving License / School Photo ID / Any other photo ID Card issued by the State / Central Government.
- Candidates must pay the application fee.
- Submit the application and take a printout of the finally submitted application.
Application Fee
- For General/OBC Category Application Fee: Rs.100/-.
- For SC/ ST/ Ex-Serviceman/ PwD/ Female Category Application Fee: Nil.
Selection Process
- Selection procedure of Indian Forest Service Exam 2024 will be done in three stages – Preliminary Exam (MCQ type), Mains Exam (descriptive type) and Personal Interview.
- Qualified candidates of preliminary examination will be called for the Mains Exam followed by a personal interview for final selection.

- Candidates applying for Indian Forest Service Exam are required to appear in the Civil Services (Preliminary) Exam 2024 and qualify the same for going to the second stage of Indian Forest Service (Main) Exam 2024 (Written and Interview).

UPSC IFS 2024 Admit Card
- The eligible candidates shall be issued an e-Admit Card three weeks before the commencement of the examination
- The e-Admit Card will be made available on the UPSC website [https://upsconline.nic.in ] for downloading by candidates. No Admit Card will be sent by post.
UPSC IFS 2024 Syllabus
Part A—Preliminary Examination (CSE)
Paper I – (200 marks) Duration: Two hours
- Current events of national and international importance.
- History of India and Indian National Movement.
- Indian and World Geography-Physical, Social, Economic Geography of India and the World.
- Indian Polity and Governance-Constitution, Political System, Panchayati Raj, Public Policy, Rights Issues, etc.
- Economic and Social Development-Sustainable Development, Poverty, Inclusion, Demographics, Social Sector Initiatives, etc.
- General issues on Environmental ecology, Bio-diversity and Climate Change – that do not require subject specialization.
General Science. Paper II-(200 marks) Duration : Two hours
- Comprehension
- Interpersonal skills including communication skills
- Logical reasoning and analytical ability
- Decision making and problem solving
- General mental ability
- Basic numeracy (numbers and their relations, orders of magnitude, etc.) (Class X level), Data interpretation (charts, graphs, tables, data sufficiency etc. — Class X level)
Part B—Main Examination
- The standard of papers in General English and General Knowledge will be as may be expected of a Science or Engineering graduate of an Indian University.
- The scope of the syllabus for optional subject papers for the examination is broadly of the honours degree level i.e. a level higher than the bachelors degree and lower than the master’s degree. In the case of engineering subjects, the level corresponds to the bachelor’s degree.
- There will be no practical examination in any of the subjects.
