Universities to install jammers at Exam Centres as per UGC Direction

UGC directs Universities to install jammers at Exam CentresThe Higher Educational Institutes and Universities have been directed by the University Grants Commission (UGC) to comply with government policies strictly to install jammers at the time of exams so that unfair means could be curbed.

In 2016, the statutory exam conducting bodies were allowed by the govt to use the jammers of low powers at the time of exams in order to control unfair means with the help of devices based on radio frequencies.

A classroom jammer model EC-CRJ-6B5 has been specified by the UGC. The model was evaluated successfully through various lab tests by officials. It has to be used at the places that doesn’t have Base Transceiver Station (BTS) within 100 m of the installation. Before installing it the institute officials would have to take permission from the Secretary of Security as well.

The low powered jammers to be deployed at exam halls in Universities would be supplied by Bharat Heavy Electronics Limited (BHEL) and Electronics Corporation of India Limited (ECIL) on a rental basis.
