NTA may conduct NEET 2021 exam in online mode and twice a year

As per the report by various news media, senior official from health, education ministry as well as well the National Testing Agency will hold a meeting on Monday i.e. January 25, 2021 to discuss the modalities of the NEET 2021 Examination. The panels will have a discussion on the possibility of conducting NEET 2021 in online mode and twice a year.

The exam date for NEET 2021 for the undergraduate medical admissions has not been announced as yet.

NEET is the national level Medical Entrance exam for admission to MBBS/BDS courses in the country. Every year, as many as 16 lakh candidates register for the examination.

After recent measures taken by the Ministry of Education in regards conducting JEE Main 2021 four times this year, medical aspirants across the country took to Twitter to request Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal to increase the number of entrance exams for NEET as well.

Talking to TOI, faculty association of AIIMS Dr Rakesh Yadav said, “A student may not be able to appear due to various reasons or may have a bad day. Therefore, like engineering entrance, NEET too can be conducted multiple times.”

He also points out that the online mode of examination is an effective and efficient mode of testing across the world. However, with NEET, the modalities have to be checked and the testing agency, NTA would be sharing the logistics of the same on Monday.

The final decision will be taken by the Health Ministry. The education ministry is, however, inclined towards holding NEET exams computer-based as they deem it to be more transparent, faster and involving a faster evaluation
