Artificial Intelligence, Yoga introduced in CBSE Curriculum from 2019-20 session
CBSE to introduce Artificial Intelligence, Yoga as new subjects in Curriculum – Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to introducing Artificial Intelligence(AI), Yoga, and Early Childhood Care Education (ECCE) as skill subjects in the school curriculum from the academic session 2019-2020 onwards.
As per the reports Artificial Intelligence(AI), is to be introduced as optional sixth subject for Class IX, where as ECCE and Yoga are to be introduced as elective subjects at senior secondary level.
The board has notified the decision to introduce the subjects earlier this month. It was decided that the subject would be introduced from classes 8, 9 and 10 as a skill subjects. According to member of the board’s governing body, “it would be the optional 6th subject.”

The circular reads, “AI in the past few years has gained geo-strategic importance and a large number of countries are striving to stay ahead with their policy initiatives to get their country ready.”
Considering the demand of schools supplemented by various reports that projected the huge requirement of yoga professionals and early childhood educators, the board has decided to introduce the same as an elective subject at senior secondary level from this session.

The circular also stated that “Yoga will teach a way of living that aims towards a healthy mind in a healthy body whereas Early Childhood Education will prepare the students to teach children of nursery and kindergarten classes happy education or other systems of child-centric education.”
