Printing is a process for production of texts and images, particularly with ink on paper using a printing press. It is a large scale industrial process, and is an essential part of publishing and transaction printing.

With the discovery of science and technology, computers, lasers and microprocessor, printing is no longer a craft. It is a multi-disciplinary profession, which deals with text and graphics to make a final print by transferring ink on paper or board or other materials.

 

As a printing technologist, the vacancies for this post are available in newspapers and magazines, railway presses, advertising agencies, machine manufacturers, and in packaging industries. There is always an option to start you own printing press.

In this course, one learns the techniques like the preparation of image carrier, the actual printing procedures like letterpress, lithography, gravure, flexography, screen, laser and inkjet and post-press techniques – finishing operations like cutting, folding, binding, laminating, and embossing, packaging technology – techniques of printing on packaged products, materials technology – knowledge of materials used like paper, ink, plates and chemicals.
