Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) announces  Engineering Services Exam (UPSC ESE) 2024, Apply online for 167 Post

 

UPSC ESE 2024 – The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has released the notification and invites application for the Indian Engineering Services (Preliminary) Examination 2024 for the recruitment. The candidates applying for the examination should ensure that they fulfill all eligibility conditions for admission to the Examination. 

 

The Union Public Service Commission conducts the Engineering Services Examination (ESE) to recruit officers for services that support the technical responsibilities of the Government of India. It is a three-stage entrance exam that includes objective, subjective, and personality tests. The UPSC ESE 2024 Notification was released on 06th September 2023 and the online application starts on the website upsconline.nic.in. Eligible candidates can apply online for the UPSC Engineering Service Examination 2024 from the website.     • Recruitment on the results of this examination will be made to the Services/ Posts under the following categories:-

  • The number of vacancies to be filled on the results of the exam is expected to be approximately 167 including 05 vacancies for the PwBD (4 vacancies for Locomotor Disability including Leprosy cured, Dwarfism, Acid Attack victims and Muscular Dystrophy and 01 vacancy for Multiple Disability).

Eligibility Criteria for UPSC ESE 2024

Nationality:

  • A candidate must be either:
    • (a) a citizen of India, or
    • (b) a subject of Nepal, or
    • (c) a subject of Bhutan, or
    • (d) a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before the 1st January, 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India, or
    • (e) a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka or East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire and Ethiopia or from Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.
  • Provided that a candidate belonging to categories (b), (c), (d) and (e) above shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India and that a candidate in whose case a certificate of eligibility is necessary, may be admitted to the examination but the offer of appointment shall be given only after the necessary eligibility certificate has been issued to him/her by the Government of India.

Age Limits:

  • A candidate for this examination must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 30 years on the 01st January, 2024 i.e., he/she must have been born not earlier than 02nd January, 1994 and not later than 01st January, 2003
  • The upper age-limit of 30 years will be relaxable upto 35 years in the case of Government servants.
  • Age Relaxation Extra as per Rules.

Minimum Educational Qualification:

  • For admission to the examination, a candidate must have –
  • obtained a degree in Engineering from a University incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India or other Educational Institutions established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as Universities under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956; or
  • passed Sections A and B of the Institution Examinations of the Institution of Engineers (India); or
  • obtained a degree/diploma in Engineering from such foreign University/College/Institution and under such conditions as may be recognised by the Government for the purpose from time to time, or
  • passed Graduate Membership Examination of the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (India); or P
  • assed Associate Membership Examination Parts II and III/Sections A and B of the Aeronautical Society of India; or passed Graduate Membership Examination of the Institution of Electronics and Radio Engineers, London held after November, 1959

 

Medical Examination

  • Candidates finally recommended by the Commission on the basis of Engineering Services Examination, 2024 shall be required to undergo medical examination.
  • Every candidate, on being finally recommended by Commission will be required to undergo medical examination as and when so decided by the Ministry of Communications, Department of Telecommunications and in such manner as they deem appropriate irrespective of the fact that he/she has appeared for such medical examination in the past and found fit/unfit on the basis of earlier examination. The findings of the Medical Board will be taken as final and binding for all allotment purposes.

 

Physical Standards

  • Candidates must be physically fit according to physical standards for admission to Engineering Services Exam 2024 as per guidelines given in Appendix-II of the Rules for the Engineering Services Exam 2024 published in the Gazette of India Extraordinary dated 06.09.2023.

 

How to Apply for UPSC ESE 2024 – Application Process

  • Candidates are required to apply Online using the link www.upsconline.nic.in.
  • In case the applicant has not yet registered in the One Time Registration (OTR) platform, the link of which is already available on the Commission’s website, he/she should register in this platform and thereafter proceed for filling up the online application for the examination.
  • Detailed instructions for filling up online applications are available on the above mentioned website.
  • All candidates (male/female/transgender) are requested to carefully read the Rules of Engineering Services Examination notified by the Government (Ministry of Communications, Department of Telecommunications) and the Notice of Examination derived from these Rules.
  • The candidates applying for the examination should ensure that they fulfill all eligibility conditions for admission to the Examination.

Exam Pattern

Prelims Exam Pattern

  • There will be objective-type questions divided into 2 papers. Paper 1 consist of General Studies and Engineering Aptitude and Paper 2 Civil/ Mechanical/Electrical/ Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering
  • Paper 1 will be of 200 marks and Paper 2 will be of 300 Marks
  • Candidates will be 2 hours to complete in Paper 1 and 3 hours for Paper 2
  • There will be a negative marking of One-third (1/3rd) of the marks for wrong answer

 

Mains Exam Pattern

  • The mains exam will also consist of 2 papers. However, the questions are conventional. Both Paper will have questions on Civil/ Mechanical/Electrical/ Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering of 300 Marks Each
  • 3 hours will be given to complete the test
  • Conventional papers must be answered in English. The question paper will be set in English only. 

 

UPSC ESE Personality Test

  • Those who will qualify in the prelims and mains exam will be called for Stage‐III (Personality Test). 
  • Marks obtained by the candidates in the Stage‐I:(Preliminary/Stage‐I) Exam, Stage‐II: (Main/Stage‐II) Exam and Stage‐III (Personality Test) would determine their final ranking
