About PGEE
- PG Entrance Examination (PGEE) is for admission into the following programs.
- Master of Technology (M.Tech) programme which is based on course work.
- Master of Science (M.S) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) programmes which require some course work and completion of a research thesis.
Duration of Programs
- M.Tech : 2 years
- Master of Science by Research : 2 years
- Ph.D : 5 years
Important dates
- Application Portal Opens: 20th February 2024
- Application Portal Closes: 1st April 2024
- Admit Cards: Admit cards will be issued approximately 10 days before the exam date
- Entrance Exam: 4th May 2024 (02:00 PM to 05:00 PM)
- Master of Science by Research Interviews (On-Campus): 5th & 6th June 2024
- Ph.D Interviews (On-Campus): 7th & 8th June 2024
Eligibility Criteria
M.Tech
- Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) : B.E/B.Tech/M.E/M.Tech all branches, M.Sc, MCA, MA (Maths)
- Computer Science and Information Security (CSIS) : B.E/B.Tech/M.E/M.Tech all branches, M.Sc, MCA, MA (Maths)
- Computer Aided Structural Engineering (CASE) : B.E/B.Tech in Civil Engineering
- Product Design and Management (PDM) : Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology/Design/Science or Equivalent (4 year programme after 10+2) or Masters degree in Science/Computer Applications (2 year programme after 10+2+3) with a minimum of 60% or equivalent grade. Atleast one year experience in product development.
M.S or Ph.D
- Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) [M.S], [Ph.D.] : B.E/B.Tech/M.E/M.Tech all branches, M.Sc, MCA, MA (Maths)
- Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) [M.S], [Ph.D.] : B.E/B.Tech/M.E/M.Tech all branches, M.Sc, MCA, MA (Maths)

Ph.D
- Computational Linguistics (CL) : B.E/B.Tech/M.E/M.Tech all branches, M.Sc, MCA, MA (Maths)
- Computational Natural Sciences (CNS) : M.Sc in fundamental sciences, M.E/M.Tech/B.E/B.Tech in CS/IT/Biotech/BioInformatics/BioMed, MCA
- Spatial Informatics (SI) : M.E/M.Tech/M.Sc all branches, MCA, MA (Geography)
- Cognitive Science (Cog.Sci.) : BE/BTech/MBBS/MD/MA/MSc/MTech or equivalent degree in CogSci/Psychology/Linguistics/Philosophy/Sciences/related disciplines
- Human Sciences (HS) : M.A. in any discipline of the Humanities or Social Sciences; M.Sc./M.S./M.Tech with research thesis; B.E./B.Tech with at least five years work experience

- Eligible candidates can apply online through the official website https://www.iiit.ac.in/
- All applications should be submitted online in the PGEE portal https://pgadmissions.iiit.ac.in/pgee/
- The candidates desirous to seek admission are required to apply online. Only those applicants, who apply online before the last date and satisfy the eligibility criteria, will be considered for admission.
- Before filling the on-line application form, read the information booklet and instructions for filling online application forms, etc. very carefully.

- Application Fee : INR 2500 (Non-refundable)
- Mode of Payment : Online through credit card/debit card or net banking
Admission Process
- The admission for the M.Tech programme is solely based on the written exam which involves General Aptitude and Subject Tests.
- For MS and Ph.D programmes candidates will be shortlisted for subject interview based on a written General Aptitude Test. The decision on final offer of admission is solely based on the interview performance.
- Applicants for PhD in Human Sciences program need not take the General Aptitude Test. You will be asked to submit a research statement after the application deadline. The shortlisting for the interview will be done based on your CV and research statement.
Exam Pattern
- Mode of Exam : Online mode Computer-Based Exam
- The entrance examination consists of the following two papers:
- General Aptitude paper – 90 Minutes
- Subject paper – 90 Minutes
- There will be negative marking of 25% for wrong answers in both the papers.
- The General Aptitude paper will emphasize on basic aptitude, logical reasoning and basic questions on computers and mathematics.
- Applicant should appear for one of the following relevant subject papers based on their graduation discipline.
