Suryakumar Ashok Yadav, also known as SKY, Surya and Mr.360. He is an Indian cricketer who represents India on the international stage. He was born on September 14, 1990. He bats right handed for the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League and for the Mumbai cricket team in domestic cricket in India. He is regarded as one of the best batters in Twenty20 cricket.

Yadav has been compared to AB de Villiers, who is frequently regarded as one of the best Twenty20 batsmen. Yadav was rated as the best T20 International batsman in the world as of 1 November 2022.

He captained Mumbai cricket team in T20 and First-class Cricket for a brief period of time, since 2010.

He bats right-handed in the middle of the order and occasionally bowls right-arm spin. On March 14, 2021, he made his T20I debut for India, against England. On July 18, 2021, he played in his first One Day International (ODI) for India against Sri Lanka.

Suryakumar Ashok Yadav was born on 14 September 1990 in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India to Ashok Kumar Yadav and Swapna Yadav. The Yadav family hails from Hathoda village of Ghazipur in Uttar Pradesh. Suryakant’s father moved from Uttar Pradesh to Mumbai in order to work at the Bhabha Atomic Research Center. Yadav was ten years old at the time. Surya picked up the game while having a bit of fun in the Chembur streets. When he was ten years old, his father saw his interest in the sport and enrolled him in a cricket camp at the BARC colony in Anushakti Nagar. Later, he joined Dilip Vengsarkar’s Elf Vengsarkar Academy and participated in Mumbai’s youth cricket league.

Yadav played club cricket for Parsi Gymkhana Cricket Club in Mumbai Apart from Parsi Gymkhana he had played for Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited team and clubs such as Shivaji Park Gymkhana club and Dadar Union club in Mumbai’s club cricket.

He made his first-class cricket debut for Mumbai cricket team in Ranji trophy 2010-11, he scored 73. In the next season of 2011-12, he was the leading run scorer for his team with 754 runs in 9 matches, including a double century against the Odisha cricket team, in the 3rd match of the season. In the same season in another top Indian List-A Duleep Trophy tournament scored hundred. In the 2013–14 season he was one of top leading scorers for Mumbai.

In October 2018, he was named in India C’s squad for the 2018–19 Deodhar Trophy. In October 2019, he was named in the India C squad for the 2019–20 Deodhar Trophy.

Indian Premier League

For the 2012 season, Mumbai Indians (MI) gave him an IPL contract. He only participated in one game all season and was eliminated without scoring.

In the 2014 IPL auctions, Kolkata Knight Riders purchased him. He earned recognition in the IPL 2015 when he defeated Mumbai Indians at Eden Gardens with a game-winning 20 balls 46 runs and five sixes. He played frequently and was named the team’s vice-captain. Mumbai Indians paid 3.2 crores (US$400,000) to him during the 2018 IPL auctions.

He was retained by the Mumbai Indians for INR 8 Cr. before the 2022 season mega auction after an impressive stint with them. Due to a left forearm injury, he was forced to withdraw from the IPL 2022.

International Career

In February 2021, he was named in India’s Twenty20 International (T20I) squad for their series against England. It was his maiden international call-up to the India cricket team. He made his T20I debut for India on 14 March 2021, against England.He then played the fourth game of the series on 18 March and got his first opportunity to bat, and hit the first ball he faced in international cricket for a six, becoming the first Indian to do so in T20 International, and went on to score a half-century.His game changing performances led him to being described as an “X Factor” player by his captain.

In November 2022, Suryakumar Yadav scored his second T20I century against New Zealand at Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui, New Zealand, scoring 111 off 51 balls with the help of 11 fours and 7 sixes, he became second Indian to score two centuries in T20Is in a calendar year and emulates Rohit Sharma’s record

With his team, the Mumbai Indians, as well as the Kolkata Knight Riders before them, Suryakumar Yadav has enjoyed great success. Three IPL championships have been won by him, two with Kolkata Knight Riders and one with Mumbai Indians.
