Shikhar Dhawan is an Indian cricketer who also represents Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League. He has been a natural stroke-player who has the ability to pick the line of the ball early which allows him to get into position for any shot that he wishes to play. Dhawan is one of its kind players and he is one player who never bows down to pressure. This attribute of Dhawan makes him play fearlessly. He has always performed well in big tournaments, especially ICC Tournaments.

Shikhar Dhawan is popularly known as GABBAR in the cricket world.It has been said that the nickname Gabbar was given to Shikhar Dhawan by his Ranji team coach Vijay Dahiya.

In his debut Test game, Shikhar Dhawan became the first Indian batsman to record the fastest test century.

Shikhar Dhawan was born on 5 December 1985 in Delhi, India, to Sunaina and Mahendra Pal Dhawan in a Punjabi family. He completed his schooling at St. Mark’s Senior Secondary Public School in Meera Bagh, Delhi. Since the age of 12, he trained at Sonnet Club under the guidance of coach Tarak Sinha, who has trained 12 international cricketers. Dhawan was a wicket-keeper when he first joined the club.

In 2009, Dhawan got engaged to Melbourne-based Aesha Mukerji, an amateur kickboxer, whom he later married in 2012. Mukherjee was introduced to Dhawan by Harbhajan Singh. Ayesha is 12 years older than Dhawan, and is a mother of two daughters from her previous marriage. 

In December 2014, she gave birth to a son named Zoravar. Dhawan has also adopted Aesha’s daughters, Aliyah and Rhea.

Early Career

Dhawan started his professional career with Delhi Under-16s in the 1999/00 Vijay Merchant Trophy. He was the leading run-scorer of the 2000/01 Vijay Merchant Trophy next year. These two incredible seasons paved his path for India ACC Under-17 Asia Cup. Averaging 85 in the Asia Cup from three games, Dhawan was subsequently drafted into the Delhi Under-19 team in October 2001, for the Cooch Behar Trophy, and then again in October 2002.With brilliant performances, one over the other, Dhawan became the star of Indian Domestic cricket at a very early age. He then played for North Zone Under-19s, the CK Nayudu Trophy, Cooch Behar Trophy and even captained the Delhi Under-19 team.He played Ranji for Delhi in 2010–11. It was a poor phase for Dhawan and he struggled with form in Duleep Trophy, Vijay Hazare Trophy and Deodhar Trophy.But Dhawan redeemed himself with his domestic exploits. The 2012–13 Ranji season was probably Dhawan’s last for the foreseeable future as he became an integral part of the national team

International Career

ODI Career

In October 2010, Dhawan was chosen for his debut in a three-match ODI series against Australia. Dhawan made his debut for India in the second ODI, which was played on October 20 in Visakhapatnam. Dhawan’s debut was a complete failure as Clint McKay dismissed him for just two runs. Even in his second series of his career, which was against the West Indies, Dhawan’s ODI career did not begin.

T20 International

On June 4, 2011, at Port of Spain, Dhawan played his first T20 international match against the West Indies. He started the inning and was out after being hit by an 11-ball 5. However, Dhawan has made significant progress in T20 cricket. Dhawan led all cricketers in T20I runs scored in 2018.

In addition to playing in his 100th ODI and scoring his 13th ODI century against the South Africa team. Dhawan did this in his 100th ODI to become the first Indian batsman to hit a century.

Test Career

For the four-match series against Australia in February 2013, Dhawan was added to the Indian Test team. On March 14, Dhawan replaced Sehwag in the third Test and played at Mohali. On his Test debut, Dhawan hit the quickest century by a batsman. He only needed 85 balls to attain the landmark. Finally, Dhawan was fired for 187. Dhawan did not play in the second innings for India after he hurt his hand playing defence on the fourth day. His left hand injury ultimately proved to be a fracture, preventing him from participating in the fourth Test at Delhi and forcing him to miss six weeks of action.

On 14 June 2018, against Afghanistan cricket team, Dhawan became the only Indian and sixth overall batsman to have scored a century before lunch on the first day of a Test match.

Shikhar made his IPL debut in 2008 with the Delhi Daredevils. He was the team’s third-highest scorer with 4 half centuries. In exchange for Ashish Nehra, the management chose to trade him to the Mumbai Indians. He participated in the following two IPL seasons with the Mumbai Indians. In the fourth season, Deccan Chargers paid $300,000 to acquire Dhawan.

Dhawan was appointed captain of the Sunrisers Hyderabad team but he was replaced by Darren Sammy as captain in the 2014 edition of the Indian Premier League.

Dhawan was bought in the 2018 IPL Auction, he was bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad for ₹ 5.2 crores. Dhawan was once again traded to Delhi Capitals for the 2019 season, where he currently plays.
