Kevin De Bruyne was born on 28 June, 1991 to Herwig de Bruyne and Anna de Bruyne. While the former is in the oil investment business, the latter works as a petroleum engineer. It is noted that Bryune moved for a great part of his childhood due to his father’s business. He started playing football at the age of four in his hometown where he played for KVV Drongen in 1997, however  left the club two years later due to the lack of infrastructure and proper training. He moved to Gent and then to Genk thereafter in 2005.

Genk:

  • Bruyne joined Genk in 2005 and was promoted to the first team squad in 2008. He made his official debut for the club in 2009, in a 3-0 defeat against Charleroi. 
  • He scored his first goal for the club in 2010,in a 1-0 win against Standard Liege.
  • During the 2010-11 season itself he scored five goals and made 16 assists in 32 league matches with Genk being crowned the Belgian champions for the third time.
  • On 29 October 2011 he scored his first hat-trick for Genk in a match against Club Brugge which ended in a 5-4 victory.

  • He made his debut for the club on 18 July 2012 in a friendly match against Major League Soccer side Seattle Sounders FC in a 4-2 win.

  • He debuted for the team in the Premier League against Crystal Palace on 12 September. 
  • He scored in a 4-1 league-cup win against Sunderland on 22 September, which was followed by a 4-1 loss against Tottenham Hotspur.
