The Full form of YAHOO is Yet Another Hierarchically Organized Oracle. Yahoo is an American multinational technology company. A wide range of services are provided by YAHOO like search engine Yahoo Search, Web portal, Yahoo Directory, Yahoo News, Yahoo Mail, Yahoo Finance, Yahoo Groups, Yahoo Answers, online mapping, advertising, fantasy sports, video sharing, and its social media website.
The company has its headquarters in Sunnyvale California. The term “Hierarchical” specifies how the database of Yahoo was arranged in layers of subcategories. The term “Oracle” specifies the “source of truth and wisdom“, and the term “officious“, is intended to specify that many workers or employees of the office who would use the database of Yahoo while surfing from work. The company was formed in January 1994 by David Filo and Jerry Yang. They were students of electrical engineering at Stanford University.
The two founders started their guide in February 1994 in a campus trailer as a way to keep track of their personal interests on the Internet. First, they created a website named “Jerry and David’s guide to the World Wide Web” but later on 18th January 1995, changed it as “yahoo.com“. They said that the reason behind selecting the name yahoo was that they like the general definition of the yahoo i.e. unsophisticated, rude, uncouth.
