The Full form of UIDAI is Unique Identification Authority of India. UIDAI is an agency or statutory authority of the Govt. of India that deals with the implementation of the AADHAR scheme, which is introduced to eliminate fake and duplicate identities and to provide a unique identification number to all residents of India. Headquartered in New Delhi, UIDAI has 8 Regional Offices (ROs) in other cities of the country.

Furthermore, it has two Data Centers; one at Manesar in Gurugram, Haryana and another at Hebbal in Bengaluru, Karnataka. Shri Pankaj Kumar is the CEO of UIDAI as of April 2020. It was established by the Govt. of India in 2009 under the provisions of the Aadhaar Act 2016, under the MeitY (Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology). UIDAI is the issuing authority for UIDs (Aadhar unique identification numbers) and cards and it functions as a part of the Planning Commission of India.

The government of India has mandated to identify, develop, and set up the necessary infrastructure for issuing Aadhaar cards. The core values of UIDAI are to facilitate good governance, integrity, nation-building, collaborative approach, continuous learning, and quality improvements and a transparent and open organization. Furthermore, it is responsible to ensure the authentication records and the security of the identity & information of individuals.
