The Full form of TVS is Thirukkurungudi Vengaram Sundram. Thirukkurungudi Vengaram Sundram Iyengar was the founder of the TVS group. So the name TVS comes from his initial name Thirukkurungudi Vengaram Sundram. TVS Motor Company has its headquarters at Chennai, India and it is an Indian multinational motorcycle company. It is the 3rd largest motorcycle manufacturing company in India with a revenue of over 20,000 crore INR (US$2.8 billion) in 2018-19.
The company has an annual capacity of over four million vehicles and annual sales of three million units. With exports to over 60 countries, it is also the 2nd largest exporter in India. In terms of size and turnover, TVS Motor Company Ltd (a member of the TVS Group), is the largest company of the group. TVS is one of the largest manufacturers of motorcycles, auto rickshaws and mopeds in India. The company is also listed in National Stock Exchange and Bombay Stock Exchange.
Thirukkurungudi Vengaram Sundram Iyengar started a company T.V. Sundram Iyengar and Sons Limited in 1911 to begin Madurai’s first bus service. He operated a number of lorries and buses under the name Southern Roadways Limited. Later, the name was changed to TVS Motor Company Limited and was registered in 1978 for the production and sale of Scooters, Motorcycles, and three-wheelers in India.
