The Full form of TGT is Trained Graduate Teacher. TGT is a title given to a graduate who has completed his/her training in teaching. So, TGT is not a course, it is a graduate who is trained in teaching. If a person is a graduate and completed his B.Ed then he is already a Trained Graduate Teacher (TGT) and he doesn’t require any kind of teacher training to become a TGT. TGT teachers are qualified to teach the students under 10th standard, including 10th standard students. The educational qualification required to apply for TGT entrance exam is a graduate degree in any stream from a recognized university.

As on 30th September, 2018, the upper age limit of the candidates should be 40 years for PGT (Post Graduate Teacher), 35 years for TGT (Trained Graduate Teacher), and 30 years for Primary Teacher Posts. Teachers, who are having a post graduate degree and teacher training certificate, are called PGTs (Postgraduate Trained Teachers) and they are eligible to teach senior classes (i.e. above class 10th) in school. Some of the subjects taught by a Trained Graduate Teacher are: English, Science, Maths, History, Economics, Geography, Regional Language, etc.
