SUPW Full Form
The Full form of SUPW is Socially Useful Productive Work. SUPW is a subject taught in Indian schools where students can choose from a number of vocational activities like knitting, gardening, cooking, painting, carpentry, making articles like embossing, glass painting, kerchief stitch, table cloth, sandboard, first aid and other crafts and hobbies. It also includes classes such as debating, photography, carpentry etc and these things are supposed to make students more useful and productive people for the society and the economy. In 1978, it was introduced by the Ministry of Education to promote Gandhian values and educational ideas of Mahatma Gandhi. SUPW help the students to work as a team and to work with skill and deftness. Apart from imparting necessary individual skills, SUPW aims to develop the habit to work as a community, encourage community thinking, increase awareness of scientific advancements and develop a scientific outlook among the students. It is expected to help students to solve day-to-day problems of the community through the training acquired in the classroom. In schools affiliated to the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) i.e. the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) and the Indian School Certificate (ISC), the subject is mandatory part of the course curriculum. It is taught in some Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) affiliated schools which include Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya schools and Kendriya Vidyalaya schools.
