The Full form of SPSS is Statistical Package for the Social Sciences. SPSS is basically a software package used for batched or interactive statistical analysis. This software is used in many fields such as market researchers, data miners, health sciences, education researchers, marketing organizations, and in government organizations. Statistics that is included in the base software are: Bivariate statistics, Descriptive statistics, Prediction for numeral outcomes, and Prediction for identifying groups. Descriptive statistics is used for Frequencies, Cross tabulation, Descriptives, Descriptive Ratio Statistics, Explore, etc.

Bivariate statistics is used for t-test, Means, ANOVA, Correlation (partial, bivariate, distances), Bayesian, Nonparametric tests. Prediction for numerical outcomes is used for Linear regression, whereas Prediction for identifying groups is used for cluster analysis (K-means, two-step, hierarchical), Discriminant, Factor analysis. It was first released as SPSS in 1968. Version 10 (spss-X) came in 1983, in which data files could contain multiple record types. Version 16.0 and later could run under Mac, Linux, and Windows.

It was long produced by SPSS Inc., and acquired by IBM in 2009. The current versions (2015) are named IBM SPSS Statistics. Because of the dispute of ownership, the name of the product was referred to as Predictive Analytics Software (PASW).
