The Full form of RRB is Railway Recruitment Board. It was formerly known as Railway Service Commission. It was renamed in 1985 as Railway Recruitment Board (RRB). It is responsible for managing the appointment of all the new employees to work in Indian Railways. It was established for the recruitment of Group C candidates into the Indian Railways service. Currently, 21 RRBs (Railway Recruitment Boards) are functioning in Indian Railways.
RRB is the government organization in India which is responsible for issuing notifications to fill up the vacant positions. They call for receiving applications to fill up vacancies from eligible candidates, conduct examination, verify the credentials of the candidates who are selected, and recommend them to Indian Railways. In the past, some Railway Recruitment Boards conducted online examination, but now only written examinations are conducted by all RRBs.
The marks obtained by a candidate in the written exam are only considered for some posts, and for other posts, interviews along with written examination are also conducted before the final selection. Vinod Kumar Yadav is the chairman of the Railway Board as of November 2019. The objectives of RRBs are to formulate policies with regard to recruitment procedures, to monitor the activities of all RRBs, and to evaluate their performance and advise them on the priorities required.
