The Full form of PO is Probationary Officer. It is a managerial level post offered in various Public Sector Banks in India and holds the designation of Assistant Manager in any Public Sector Bank. A Probationary Officer or a PO is basically an Assistant Manager of Grade I Scale in a bank. After the successful completion of the selection criteria, a PO has to go through an intensive training program at Institute of Banking Management where they are trained. The probation period of a Probationary Officer may last for 2 years.
This again differs from bank to bank. The trainee has to undergo the training process or complete the tasks in the period of probation given by their seniors. They have to work in the different areas of bank like opening accounts, loans, cheque processing, foreign exchange, credit rating, treasury etc. The bank has the authority to terminate the trainee/employee from service in this entire probation period.
The main exam among them is the IBPS PO exam and the SBI PO exam. Both of them holds a large number of vacancies and eagerly look for candidates who can become young officers. The main thing that candidates need to keep in mind is that every bank has their own set of papers and selection criteria.
