The Full form of PMT is Pre Medical Test. PMT is an entrance exam conducted for the short listing and selection of candidates desiring to get admission in medical colleges and universities across the country. The All India Pre-Medical test (AIPMT) is now replaced by National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG). PMT was a medical entrance examination which was conducted annually in India.

The exam was conducted by the CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) but is now conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA), Delhi for admission to BDS and MBBS courses in several medical colleges throughout the country. 15 percent of the total seats in all dental and medical colleges run by the state governments, the Union of India, municipal or other local authorities in India, except in the states of Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Jammu and Kashmir, were reserved for candidates who qualified this examination.

The pattern of AIPMT was changed in 2010. The examination was replaced by a two-stage or two-tier test – The Prelims and the Mains. The AIPMT Prelims was used to be objective exam, whereas the AIPMT Mains was used to be subjective exam. The candidates who qualify the AIPMT Prelims exam were eligible to sit for the AIPMT Mains test.
