The full form of PAN is Permanent Account Number. It is a combination of ten-digit alphanumeric characters. The Income Tax Department issues it. The alphanumeric characters of PAN card is issued in this format – AAAPL1234C. In the format first four characters are English letters, next four are the English numerals and the last one is Letter again. The card is issued under the Section 139A of the Indian Income Tax Act 1961. Nowadays, it is mandatory to link the PAN card with the bank account numbers.
