The Full form of NET is National Eligibility Test. NET is a national level entrance test specially conducted for post graduate students who either wish to pursue a Ph.D or want to make their career in teaching in India. It is also known as NTA-UGC-NET or UGC NET. It is a test conducted for determining the eligibility for the post of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and/or Assistant Professor in Indian colleges and universities.

UGC NET is considered as India’s one of the toughest exams, with merely a success ratio of 6%. NET is the minimum standard in research field and for teaching professional. This exam is conducted in many subjects i.e. Computer application, Computer Science and Engineering, Social Science, History, Sociology, Political Science, Forensic Science, Anthropology Home Science, Law, Education, and many more as well as literature subjects like English, Hindi, Sanskrit, Gujarati, Rajasthani, Marathi, Spanish, Japanese, French, etc. NET (National Eligibility Test) is conducted by University Grants Commission (UGC). UGC conducts this examination twice in every year throughout India.

This examination was first conducted in the year 1989 and since then this examination is conducted twice in a year. Until July 2018, the CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) conducted the UGC NET exam but from December 2018 onwards, National Testing Agency (NTA) is conducting the UGC National Eligibility Test.
