The full form of ICDS is Integrated Child Development Service. It is a popular flagship program promoted by the Indian Government for the holistic development of young children and their mothers. It aims at the all-round development of the young kids of the country, especially those from rural areas. Under this program, the govt. provides pre-school education, food, basic healthcare facilities such as healthcare services, immunization, referral services to the kids who are under the age of six. Apart from kids, pregnant and lactating mothers also benefit from these services. It was introduced for the first time in 1975. The government also conducts programs for physical, social and psychological development of the children. ICDS has played a key role in reducing illness, mortality, school-dropout rate among the children.
