The Full form of DCP is Deputy Commissioner of Police. A DCP is a police, administrative official or income tax officer in different countries. Usually ranking below the Commissioner, this rank is commonplace in police forces of Commonwealth countries. The Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) or district magistrate is the executive head of an administrative sub-unit of a state, known as district.

The DCPs are entrusted with overall responsibility for maintaining the law and order, implementation of government schemes and is also authorized to hear revenue cases pertaining to the district. District magistrate is also authorized to collect Land Revenue and is therefore also referred as Collector (revenue) and also to control encroachment of government land in the district.

In India officers of Indian Administrative Service cadre are appointed this office and in Pakistan usually the Pakistan Administrative Service, formally known as District Management Group, cadre of the Central Superior Services or officers of Provincial Management Services erstwhile Provincial Civil Services are appointed to this office. In all the police forces of Australia, deputy commissioner is the rank senior to the rank of assistant commissioner and directly below that of a commissioner.
