The full form of BSF is Border Security Forces. It is one of the paramilitary forces in India whose main duty is to guard the Indian Borders. Its aim is to prevent transnational crimes, maintain peace along the borders and guard them. It falls under the Union Home Ministry. Usually BSF jawans are deployed on Border areas that India shares with Pakistan, Bangladesh, Myanmar, etc. BSF is one of the five Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) whose recruitment is done with the help of UPSC and SSC. It is also termed as ‘First Line of Defence’ along the Borders of India. VK Johri is present Director General of BSF. Its headquarters are in Delhi. It has taken part in several prominent wars such as Indo-Pakistan War of 1971, Operation Kargil 1999, etc.
