The Full form of BHMS is Bachelor of Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery. Bachelor of Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery (BHMS) is an undergraduate degree programme in homeopathic system (an alternative approach to medicine). The duration of the course is 5.5 years in which the academic programme containing the four and a half year academic session and one year internship programme with live practical which starts after the students complete the final examination. The undergraduate programme in homeopathic system can also be pursued through the distance education system. After completing this degree, a student is eligible to become a doctor in the homeopathic medical field. The degree holder is eligible to have the prefix as a doctor, for which the abbreviation is Dr. The basic requirement for the eligibility to get admission to BHMS programme is qualifying the 10+2 examination with 50% marks and must have physics, chemistry and biology as the main subjects. The admission in colleges and universities is based on the merit. In India, there are also various joint entrance exams for M.B.B.S, B.D.S and B.H.M.S courses. The subjects included in this course are Homeopathic Pharmacy, Homoeopathic Repertory, Homeopathic Material Medical, Homeopathic Philosophy, Bio-Chemistry, Practice of Medicine etc.
