The Full form of BAMS is Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery. BAMS is an undergraduate degree awarded in the field of Ayurvedic Medicine. The duration of this course is of five and a half years containing four and a half year medicine course and one year internship. Basically BAMS is an integrated course with both modern and Ayurved but majority of its applications focused on traditional way of treatment. The minimum educational qualification required to take admission in this course is 12th class education with science. After passing the 12th class, a student is required to clear a state or national level BAMS entrance exam to get admission in the respective medical college. The BAMS course curriculum contains the in depth study of Ayurved topics along with the study of modern anatomy, principle of surgery, principle of modern medicines, ENT, pharmcology and many more. Ayurveda not only talks about the cure of diseases but also provides solutions to prevent the recurrence of diseases. According to Ayurveda, the diseases or illnesses arise due to three types of dysfunctions in human body; Kapha, Pitta and Vata. A student completed the BAMS degree is designated as Ayurvedacharya. He can use the courtesy title “Doctor” upon registration as a medical practitioner.
