Finance Ministry puts a hold on the ongoing IBPS Clerk (CRP CLERK-XI) Recruitment Process

The Finance Ministry has put a hold on the ongoing IBPS Clerk (CRP CLERKS-XI) recruitment process for filling 5830 clerical cadre vacancies in multiple public sector banks across the country. The registration process for the same started from 12th July 2021. The Ministry has directed the Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) to stop the recruitment process amid a row over the number of languages in which the exam is being held.

The Finance Ministry has appointed a committee to look into the demand for holding examinations for clerical cadres in Public Sector Banks (PSBs) in local or regional languages also.

Currently the exam for recruitment in the post of clerical cadre in Public Sector Banks (PSBs) are held only in two languages: English and Hindi. The Committee would give its recommendations in 15 days.

The Ministry has asked IBPS to put on hold the ongoing process until the recommendations of the Committee are made available.

The finance ministry has referred to a statement made by the Union Finance Minister in 2019 where she had assured that bank exams will be held in local languages. The ministry says the Finance Minister’s statement was made in the context of Regional Rural Banks (RRBs) only.

IBPS has put a note on the website mentioning that the registration process for IBPS Clerk (CRP CLERKS-XI) is temporarily stopped and the IBPS Clerk notification has also been withdrawn from the official website.
