Hotel Management, Real estate courses will not be offered in distance mode – The University Grants Commission (UGC) in a recent official order said that the programs in Hotel Management and Real Estate have been prohibited in distance education from academic session 2019-20

The order read, “In accordance with communication received from various regulatory bodies, programs in Hotel Management, Culinary Studies and valuation of Real Estate, will not be recognised from academic session 2019-20 and onwards.”

However, the order also said that the admissions taken in the Hotel Management, Culinary Studies and valuation of Real Estate courses during the recognition period will be recognized till the completion of program even if the university does not have recognition for further years provided the program is offered in accordance with UGC norms and territorial jurisdictions.

In year 2017, UGC notified Open and Distance Learning Regulations according to which professional programs such as medicine, engineering, and architecture not to be offered in distance mode. Later the commission also prohibited agriculture degree courses through distance mode.

To protect the interest of the students already enrolled in the agriculture degree program, the Indian Council of Agriculture Research (ICAR) was requested for hand-holding eesuch institutions.
