Around 4200 AYUSH Wellness Centres to be set up in FY 2019-20

Government plans to open 4200 AYUSH Wellness Centres in FY 2019-20 – The Indian government has announced  to set up around 4200 AYUSH Wellness Centres during the Financial Year 2019-20. Union AYUSH Minister Shripad Yesso Naik informed about this on July 15, 2019 during the question hour in the Rajya Sabha which is the Upper House of parliament.

 

Apart from this, the government would also be providing financial assistance in order to set up integrated AYUSH hospitals in 85 districts across several states. It has plans to set up more such hospitals. The Minister for Ayurveda, Yoga, and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy (AYUSH) also stated that around 2500 new centres have been planned for opening within the first four months of the new govt. 

 

The govt would be providing financial assistance to upcoming hospitals in 85 districts in several states. More will be added soon. The minister also stated that he had received proposals to set up 50 more such hospitals from several state governments. The minister was replying several doubts and queries regarding AYUSH ministry in the Upper House. 

 

AYUSH minister Naik highlighted several efforts of his ministry and explained how Modi govt is putting on efforts to encourage the traditional medicine system. He highlighted how the govt has been taking steps to modernise and upgrade the infrastructure of the Hospitals under govt. He highlighted how govt had been promoting Yoga for a healthy life.  

 

The minister stated that during 2018, over 50 countries had celebrated International Yoga Day and over 10 crore people were part of it. In 2019, over 150 countries had participated and it was celebrated in over 600 cities that includes 40 iconic locations.
