Government directs Educational institute to implement 10% quota from upcoming Academic year

Educational Institute to implement 10% quota for poor – While address the press conference in Pune on January 20, HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar said that, the Government has issued an office memorandum to implement 10 per cent reservation.’

 

HRD Minister also said that, “we have issued an order to all educational institutes and universities to implement 10 per cent reservation for economically weak in general category in the upcoming educational year.  Even the State government has been asked to implement the 10 percent quota scheme, he added.

The Parliament recently passed the Constitution (124th Amendment) Bill 2019 for 10 per cent quota in government jobs and education institute for the “economically weaker” sections in general category As per the bill, the reservation is meant for individuals whose annual earning is below Rs. 8 lakh and who possess less than 5 acres of agriculture land. This 10 percent reservation is over and above the existing 50 per reservation for the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and the Other Backward Classes

 

Families owning agricultural land above five acre, a house above 1000 square feet, or 100 yard plot or above in a notified municipal area or a plot of 200 yards or above in a non-notified municipal area are not eligible for this reservation.
