Biannual 10th and 12th Board Exam option for Students from 2025-26 Academic Session
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan while inaugurating the PM SHRI (Prime Minister Schools for Rising India) scheme in Chhattisgarh which aims to upgrade 211 schools in the state announced that starting from the academic session of 2025-26, students will have the option to take their 10th and 12th class board examinations twice a year. Speaking at the Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay auditorium in Raipur, Pradhan emphasized that one of the goals of the new National Education Policy (NEP) introduced in 2020 is to alleviate academic pressure on students.
Under the New Curriculum Framework (NCF) announced by the Ministry of Education in August last year, board examinations will be held at least twice a year to ensure students have enough time and opportunity to perform well. They will also get the option to retain the best score. Addressing students at the event, Pradhan encouraged them to embrace this decision and retain their best marks.
Highlighting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision through the NEP, Pradhan stressed the importance of providing students with quality education, connecting them with their cultural heritage, and preparing them for the future. This is the formula for making India a developed country by 2047,” he added.
In the current system, board exams are conducted once in a year and the students do not have the chance to take it when they are ready, or a second chance to clear it if they miss the first opportunity.
Meanwhile, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has commenced the Class 10, 12 Board Exam 2024 from February 15, 2024. The board exam for class 10 will be concluded on March 13, 2024 and class 12 exams will be concluded on April 2, 2024.
