It is my privilege to welcome you and introduce you to “National Institute of Technology, Hamirpur, HP” (NIT-H) which has been established in 1986 as Regional Engineering College and has been given a status of Deemed University by the Ministry of Human Resource Development Government of India, along with other NITs in 2002.

Admission Process

M Tech Programmes

Eligibility
The applicant must have a Bachelor degree in Engineering/AMIE in appropriate discipline or a Master degree in appropriate discipline with CGPI of 6.75 on 10-point scale or equivalent or 60% marks in aggregate wherever marks are awarded.

2.2  Admission Procedure
The applicants shall apply for admission on the prescribed forms which can be downloaded from Institute website. The duly completed application must be sent to Dean (Academic) latest by 29.05.2009 (5.00 PM). In case a candidate wants to apply for courses in more than one department, he/she is required to send separate applications for each course alongwith processing fee of Rs. 500/- (Rupees Five Hundred only).
a)         The admission to MTech programme will be based on the valid GATE score of the qualified candidates in appropriate discipline/branch. In the event of seats remaining vacant, non-GATE candidates may also be considered who shall also be ranked according to their performance in qualifying examination.
b)        Ties in GATE score shall be resolved on the basis of the marks obtained in the qualifying examination.
c)         The candidates appearing for final examinations of their bachelor programme in 2009 and whose result is still awaited, can also apply, and if selected can join the programme provisionally. Such candidates shall submit the CGPI/marks till date. The candidates who are awarded percentage scores shall submit the percentages of marks obtained for all the semesters/years for which the result is available. Admissions in all such cases will be made purely on provisional basis and, the admission will be confirmed only when they submit the mark sheet and a certificate of having passed the bachelor degree/equivalent qualification with at least 60% marks or 6.75 CGPI (on ten point scale). They must submit proof of passing their final examinations with requisite marks by the last date of registration as per academic calendar of NITH. Non-fulfilment of this condition will automatically result in the cancellation of their provisional admission and their fee shall be forfeited.
d)        The applications shall be scrutinised by the respective DSC of the departments. The list of short listed candidates shall be displayed on Institute website on June 5, 2009, and no separate call letter will be issued.
e)         The counseling and admission of short listed candidate will be held on June 16, 2009 at 9:00 AM in the concerned Department for which candidates are required to appear in Person.
f)         On approval by the Chairman, Senate, the Head of the Department will issue the admission letters to the candidates, who will be required to accept the offer of admission by depositing the prescribed fee on June 16, 2009.
g)          In case a candidate does not accept the offer by paying the prescribed fee by the specified date, the offer of admission may stand withdrawn, and the admission may be offered to the candidates in the waiting list, if any, in order of merit.
h)        The offer of admission may also stand withdrawn if the candidate who has accepted the              offer and fails to register by the date for last registration.
i)     SponsoredCandidates
A candidate who fulfils above eligibility criteria and who is sponsored by his/her employer must have been in service of the sponsoring organization for at least two years at the time of admission. The sponsoring organization must specifically undertake to relieve him/her to pursue the programme for its full duration. The applicant is required to produce the sponsorship certificate from his/her employer at the time of admission to the programme.
j)          Admission in an M.Tech. Programme shall be made only if there are at least 4 (Four) candidates
ndidates shall be required to produce the following documents in original as well as two copies thereof at the time of counselling/admission on June 16, 2009
1.        High school certificate
2.        GATE score card
3.        Qualifying degree certificate (as claimed in the online application form)
4.        Mark sheets of qualifying examination for all semesters/years (as claimed in the online application form)
5.        Character certificate issued by the Head of the institution last attended.
6.        Passport size photographs (4 Nos)
7.        Category certificate, if applicable
8.        Candidate appearing for final examinations must bring the following additional documents:
a.       A certificate in original from the Principal/Director of their Institute stating that by  June 30, 2009,  the candidate will be appearing for final examination in all subjects required for obtaining their bachelor degree.
b.      A certificate from the Principal/Director certifying that the candidate has obtained an average of 60% marks or 6.75 CGPI (on ten point scale) based on latest available marks/grades.

###Note:  An OBC candidate has to produce certificate from competent authority explicitly certifying that he/she belongs to OBC category and does not belong to the persons/sections (Creamy Layer) mentioned in Column 3 of the Schedule to the Government of India, Department of Personnel & Training O.M. No. 36012/22/93-Estt.(SCT) dated 08/09/93 which is modified vide OM No. 36033/3/2004 Estt.(Res.) dated 09/03/2004.

Ph.D                                                                                 
Eligibility
Ph.D. in Engineering
The applicant must have a Master degree in Engineering/Technology with marks/CGPI not below 60 % or 6.75 on a 10 point scale. Applicant with a Bachelor degree in Engineering or Master Degree in Applied Science or any appropriate discipline with a minimum of 75% marks/8.0 CGPI with sufficient experience and publications shall only be considered.

Ph.D. in Humanities & Social Sciences

The applicant must have the master degree in relevant subject with marks/CGPI not below 60% or 6.75 on a 10 point scale. Applicants with a Bachelors degree in Engineering with a minimum of 75% Marks/8.0 CGPI (on 10 point scale), shall only be considered.

Ph.D. in Applied Sciences

The applicant must have a master degree in the relevant Science subject with  marks/CGPI not below 60% or 6.75 on a 10 point scale. Applicant with bachelor degree in Engineering or in an allied field with a minimum of 75% marks/8.0 CGPI with sufficient experience and publications shall only be considered.
3.2 Admission   Procedure
a.   The applicants shall apply for admission on the prescribed forms which can be downloaded from Institute website.  The duly completed application must reach the office of Dean (Academic) latest by 29.05.2009 (5.00 PM).

d.  On approval by the Chairman, Senate, the Head of the Department will issue the admission letters to the candidates, who will be required to accept the offer of admission by depositing the prescribed fee on June 18, 2009.
e.    In case a candidate does not pay the prescribed fee by the specified date, the offer of admission may stand withdrawn, and the admission may be offered to the candidates in the waiting list, if any, in order of merit.
f.    The selected candidates will have to register on or before the last registration date as specified in the academic calendar. The offer of admission shall stand withdrawn if the candidate fails to register by the date for last registration.
g.   The selected candidate, who has completed all the examinations including project/thesis examination and the viva voce before the date of registration but is unable to produce the certificate in proof of having passed and secured the minimum specified qualifying marks, may be considered for provisional admission. However, if admitted provisionally, they will  be required to produce the evidence of their having passed the qualifying degree    examination  by the last date of registration, failing which the admission may be cancelled.
The candidates shall be required to produce the following documents in original as well as two copies thereof at the time of counselling/admission on June 18, 2009

Admission of Indian Nationals Residing Abroad (INRA) and Foreign Nationals 

  • INRA candidates must have been residing abroad continuously for at least one year at the time of applying for admission. Their applications may be processed by the DSC as and when they are received or according to any schedule convenient to the department. The  applications should be scrutinized to make sure that, both in terms of qualifications and attainment; they  are comparable with the candidates admitted in the general category.
  • The applications of foreign nationals, who are sponsored by the Indian Council of Cultural Relations (ICCR)/MHRD will be scrutinized by the department concerned to assess their suitability for admission to the programme. The Department’s Selection Committee recommendation shall be sent to the Chairman, Senate through the Chairman, SPGC.
  •  The applications of non-sponsored foreign national candidates will also be considered for admission to the postgraduate programmes. Such candidates who are in India and are seeking admission to the M.Tech. Programme must satisfy the same GATE requirements (if eligible to take it) as the candidates in the general category. However, application of a candidate who is in India and has not been able to take GATE for valid reason will be considered by the DSC concerned on its merit. Admission of such candidates will be subject to no-objection from the Department of Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development/ICCR etc.

   3.4  Admission of Sponsored Candidates
·   A candidate who is sponsored by his/her employer and who meets the additional conditions specified below may be admitted through the Selection Committee appointed as per sub Clause 2.
·    A sponsored candidate must have been in service of the sponsoring organization for at least two years at the time of admission. The sponsoring organization must specifically undertake to relieve him/her to pursue the programme for its full duration. The part time candidates are  required to submit No Objection Certificate (NOC) from their employer/organization stating that:
His/Her official duties permit him/her to devote sufficient time for Research.
He/She will have to reside in the institute for a period of not less than one year during his/her registration for the degree. However, this condition can be relaxed for candidate working at Hamirpur or around Hamirpur within a radius of 50 KM.
Admission to Off Campus Programme for Ph.D.
 ·        A candidate working in an R&D establishment or in other institution/organisation, which is  equipped with the necessary research and library facilities, may be considered for admission only to the Ph.D. programmes in Engineering and Applied Sciences. Such a candidate must  be sponsored by his/her employer and must have been in employment with the sponsoring organization for at least 2 years at the time of admission.
The employer must explicitly undertake to relieve him/her to stay on the campus to   enable the candidate to complete the Course work, Comprehensive Examination and    State of the Art seminar. However for such candidates the minimum residency   requirement to stay on campus could be waved off by the Senate.

·      A candidate applying for admission to the off campus registration programme must provide detailed information about the research facilities available at his/her organization and a  certificate that these would be available to him/her for carrying out research. He/she may   have a supervisor from his/her organisation, if required. In such case he / she should provide  the biodata of the prospective supervisor from his/her organisation.

MBA
Eligibility for Admission
The applicant must have a Bachelor degree in Engineering/ Technology/Architecture or MCA with CGPI of 6.75 on 10 point scale or equivalent or 60% marks in aggregate wherever marks are awarded.
4.2  Admission Procedure
a.  The applicants shall apply for admission on the prescribed forms which can be downloaded from Institute website. The duly completed application must reach the office of Dean (Academic) latest by 29.05.2009 (5.00 PM).
b.  The applications shall be scrutinised as per eligibility criteria. The list of short listed candidates shall be displayed on Institute website on June 5, 2009, and no separate call letter will be issued.
c.  The short listed candidate will be required to appear in Person for a written Test on June 14, 2009 at 10:00 AM. The result of written test shall be displayed on the Institute website on June 15, 2009.
d.   The admission to MBA programme shall be on the basis of merit of written test of eligible candidates on June 17, 2009 at 9:00 AM.
e.   On approval by the Chairman, Senate, the Head/Coordinator of the Department will issue the admission letters to the selected candidates, who will be required to accept the offer of admission by depositing the prescribed fee on June 17, 2009.
f.    In case a candidate does not pay the prescribed fee by the specified date, the offer of admission may stand withdrawn, and the admission may be offered to the candidates in the waiting list, if any, in order of merit.
