The Himalayan Institute Hospital Trust opened in 1994 with 250 beds and currently has 750 beds with plans for further expansion upto 2,000 beds.The hospital is serving approximately 10 million poor and needy people of Garhwal, Kumaon and adjoining areas. The Himalayan Institute Hospital offers various services previously not locally available in this entire region of Garhwal Himalayas.
The opening of the medical college in 1995 marked the beginning of a new era in the development of medical education in India. This is the first private medical college in the state of Uttaranchal. Recognised by the Medical Council of India (MCI),

Research will be conducted in the following areas: autonomic nervous system, yoga, body/diet, breathing, mind, senses, soul, music, and mantra. Education and training will be given in hatha yoga, yoga nidra, yoga therapy, intuitive diagnosis, group meditation.

The Himalayan Institute of Medical Sciences was granted permission to start PG courses (MD/MS/Diploma) by the Government of India / Medical Council of India in the year 2001. Admission Process

B. Sc. Programme
All eligible candidates will be required to appear for an entrance test. It is of 2 hours duration and includes questions in the areas of Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, General Knowledge, and English. The general standard of the examination are that of Higher Secondary/ Intermediate. The candidates whose names are included in the merit list are then interviewed. The selection of candidates is made after counseling on the basis of their performance in entrance test. The selected candidates are medically examined by a Medical Board appointed for the purpose at the time of admission. Only physically fit candidates are eligible for admission.
