Establishment

Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute Of Technology, Surat is one of the 17 Regional Engineering Colleges that were established as joint venture of the Government of India and the Government of Gujarat. It was established in June 1961 with facilities to run Bachelor’s Degree Programmes in Civil, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering disciplines.

It is now changed to National Institute of Technology along with other RECs.
From the academic session 1978-79, the college switched over to the four year Degree programmes. The college has now been given the status of Deemed University.

Admission Process

Admission Criteria For Ph. D. Programmes

I. NON – SPONSORED CANDIDATES :
a) GENERAL CATEGORY :
• M. E. / M. Tech. or Equivalent with a minimum of 50% marks in all
semesters/years in M. E. / M. Tech. (CGPA = 5.0)
• Preference will be given to GATE qualified candidates.
b) RESERVED CATEGORY :
• M. E. / M. Tech. or Equivalent with a minimum of 45% marks in all
semesters/years M. E. / M. Tech. (CGPA = 4.5)
• Preference will be given to GATE qualified candidates.

II. SPONSORED CANDIDATES :
a) GENERAL CATEGORY :
• M. E. / M. Tech. or Equivalent with a minimum of 50% marks in all
semesters/years either in M. E. / M. Tech. (CGPA = 5.0)
• Preference will be given to GATE qualified candidates.
b) RESERVED CATEGORY :
• M. E. / M. Tech. or Equivalent with a minimum of 45% marks in all
semesters/years either in M. E. / M. Tech.
• Preference will be given to GATE qualified candidates. (CGPA = 4.5)
NOTE :
(i) In addition to above criteria, the eligibility for admission to Doctorate
Programme will also be governed under Clause 5 “ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION”.
(ii)The final selection to Doctorate Programme under all categories will be
strictly subjected to the performance of the candidate in interview before
respective selection committee.

Application Procedure
The candidates have to submit an Application and processing Fee (Nonrefundable) of Rs.1000/-(for Open/OBC) and Rs.500/-(SC/ST) with the application. The fee has to be submitted in the form of crossed Demand Draft in favour of “The Director, SVNIT, Surat” payable at Surat . The list of candidates called for the interview shall be put on the
Institute website https://www.svnit.ac.in in the month of July and December.
FILLING – UP THE FORM
a) After carefully reading the instruction given in the brochure, fill in the
application form.
b) Candidate should complete the application form in all respects.
Incomplete application forms will be rejected.
c) Forms should be filled neatly and cleanly.
d) For SC/ST candidate Fresh Caste Certificate must be attached with
application form.
e) For OBC candidates, if applicable, the certificates will be required to be
produced as per the decision of the appropriate authority.

Under Graduate Admissions to SVNIT Surat (now being a deemed university)are granted on the basis of performance in the All India Engineering/Pharmacy/Architecture Entrance Examination (AIEEE) conducted by CBSE, for MHRD, Government of India. Details regarding the exam may be referred to on www.aieee.nic.in. Any further admission details will be provided as soon as they are available

Post-Graduate Admissions: Admission notification will be given on All-India basis. For admission to PG Programmes, the candidates must have at least 60 percent marks or an equivalent Cumulative Grade Point Average in the B.E./B.Tech. or equivalent examination (55 percent for SC/ST category) in the respective branch of Engineering. For the PG Programme in Town and Regional Planning offered by the Civil Engineering Department, the candidates with B.E./B.Tech. degree in Civil Engineering or Bachelors degree in Architecture securing at least 60 percent of the marks are eligible for admission. For the PG Programmes in Mechanical Engineering, the candidates with B.E./B.Tech in Production/Production & Industrial Engineering are also eligible for admission.
