Establishment

It was founded on May 8, 1962, under the Rabindra Bharati Act of the Government of West Bengal, 1961, to mark the birth centenary of the poet Rabindranath Tagore.
The University was reconstituted in 1981 by the Rabindra Bharati Act, 1981.

Admission process

The University invites applications for admission to the following courses for the session 2009-2010 under the Faculty of Arts.

1. Course:  B. Ed. (1- year – NCTE Affiliated)
Eligibility:  Candidates with at least 45% (40% for SC/ST) marks either in the Bachelor’s Degree and/or in the Master’s degree or any other qualification equivalent thereto, are eligible for admission to the programme.

2. Course:  Bachelor of Library and Information Science (BLISc), (1-year)
Eligibility:  (a) For Fresher candidate: H.S. (2nd. Div.) + Honours + Master’s degree.
(b) For deputed candidate: H.S. + Graduation + working experience as a full-time salaried staff in any Govt./ Govt. aided Libraries/recognized institution (Govt. or semi Govt.).
(c) For Certificate holders in Library Science: H.S. (2nd.Division) + Graduation / Graduation with Honours
(d) For S.C./S.T.: Graduation + Masters’ Degree.

For both courses fresher candidates having break of studies for more than two years would not be eligible for admission.

Prescribed application forms including prospectus at Rs. 125/- in cash will be available from the University Sales Counter at Emerald Bower Campus, 56A,B.T. Road, Kolkata-700050 and the same will be received by the Faculty office on all working days except Saturdays, Sundays and University Holidays as per the following schedule.

(i) Date and Time of distribution and submission of prescribed application form: 06.04.2009 to 20.04.2009 between 11.30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
(ii) Date and Time of publication of provisional list of candidates selected for admission to B. Ed.and B.L.I.Sc. courses: 19.05.2009 at 2 p.m.
