Chennai Mathematical Institute Chennai
Chennai Mathematical Institute is a centre of excellence for teaching and research in the mathematical sciences. Founded in 1989 as part of the SPIC Science Foundation, it has been an autonomous institute since 1996.
In 1998, CMI took the initiative to bridge the gap between teaching and research in India by starting BSc and MSc programmes in Mathematics and allied subjects. Students who have graduated from CMI have gone on to join leading institutions throughout the world.
CMI was recognized by the Government of India as a University under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956.

Eligibility for Admission
B.Sc. (Hons.): 12th standard or equivalent.
M.Sc. (Math): B.Sc.(Math)/B.Math/B.Stat/B.E./B.Tech.
M.Sc. (Applications of Math): .Sc.(Math,Physics,Statistics)/B.Math/B.Stat/B.E./B.Tech.
M.Sc. (C.S.): B.E./B.Tech/B.Sc.(C.S.) or B.Sc.(Math) with a strong background in C.S.
Ph.D. (Math): B.E./B.Tech/B.Sc.(Math)/M.Sc.(Math).
Ph.D. (C.S.): B.E/B.Tech/M.Sc.(C.S.)/M.C.A.
Each year, admissions open in early March for the academic year beginning in August. Applications for August, 2009 are closed.
For all the programmes, applicants will have to take an entrance examination, usually held at the end of May. In addition, selection for Ph.D. will involve an interview at Chennai.
CMI has examination centres across the country. In 2009, the entrance examination was held in Allahabad, Bangalore, Calicut, Chennai, Delhi, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Madurai, Mumbai, Pune, Ranchi, Shillong and Srinagar.
All students receive handsome scholarships that meet all expenses. B.Sc. (Hons.) students receive a scholarship of Rs. 3000 per month, M.Sc. students receive a scholarship of Rs. 5000 per month and Ph.D. scholarships start at Rs. 12000 per month. Students of B.Sc. (Hons.) also receive an additional monthly scholarship of Rs. 2000, made possible through generous private donations.
