One of the premier centrally set up Universities in India, the Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University was established in 1996 to further the cause of providing quality higher education and also at the same time to work for the upliftment of the socio-economic  conditions of the region, particularly the the SC/ST communities and Women.

The fully residential institute, which bears the name of the Father of the Indian Constitution and eminent freedom fighter and social reformer Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar is spread across a main campus (known as Vidya Vihar)o f 250 acres, just 10 kms away from the main Railway station of lucknow.

As one of the newer Central universities in the country, the Ambedkar university aims to provide the institutions and facilities needed for high quality research, while at the same working for the upliftment of the depressed classes of society.

Admission:

The Ambedkar University is open only for PG candidates. Admissions to the offered courses are determined by an entrance test held by the university every year, provided the candidates meet the minimum eligibility requirements. 

The entrance test comprises both objective and descriptive questions and is of 100 marks for each paper. Students who have applied for different courses will have to appear for different papers.  In case there is a case of equity in the marks of the entrance test, the aggregate percentage obtained in the qualifying examination would be factored in.
