Indian Administrative Services:
The most charming of all services, 1st preference of most of the aspirants. An all India service, accounts for supervision implementation of policies of State Government and Central Government; To travel to places to oversee implementation of policies; Supervision of expenditure of public funds as per norms of financial propriety; In the process of policy formulation and decision making, IAS officers at various levels like Joint Secretary, Deputy Secretary etc. make their contributions and the give final shape to policies; To handle the daily affairs of the government, including framing and implementation of policy in consultation with the minister-in-charge of the concerned Ministry.
Indian Police Services:
IPS, is one of the three All India Services of the Government of India. The main duty of an IPS officer entails maintenance of public peace and order, crime prevention, investigation, and detection, collection of intelligence, VIP security, counter-terrorism, border policing, railway policing, tackling smuggling, drug trafficking. commanding the Indian Intelligence Agencies like Research and Analysis Wing (R&AW), Intelligence Bureau (IB), Central Bureau of Investigations (CBI). He/She can be appointed in autonomous organizations/ subordinate organizations/ PSUs/ UN Organizations/ International Organizations in various capacities. They can also serve as Personal Secretaries to Ministers in Central Government.
IRS (IT, Custom and Central Excise):
One of the most extensive service in UPSC, IRS officers form the backbone of the taxation system of India. They are responsible for appropriate policy interventions in the Direct Taxes are formulated by the IRS officers based upon the experience in the field formation and other relevant inputs from various sources and submitted to the Government through the CBDT, IRS officers discharge the functions of an investigator, quasi-judicial authority and prosecutor, IRS officers are also responsible to negotiate International Agreements with other tax jurisdictions, to plug misuse of international financial processes for tax evasion and avoidance. An IRS officer is also eligible to be selected as Member of the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal, Authority for Advance Ruling, Income Tax Settlement Commission and Income Tax Ombudsman as per the prescribed eligibility criteria.
Indian Civil Accounts Services:
They are duty bound to establish and maintain a technically sound accounting system in the Departmentalized Accounts Office and to prescribe general principles, systems and form of Government accounts. The CGA on behalf of the Ministries and Departments liaises with the Budget Division and the Comptroller and Auditor General of India in accounting matters. His responsibilities include providing of necessary directions in accounting matters to the Ministries/Department and issuing general instructions about the system and form of accounts and procedures for accounting of receipts and payments. Reconciliation of cash balances of the Union Government with the Reserve Bank of India, consolidation of Monthly Accounts of the Union Government as submitted by various Ministries and preparation of Annual Accounts viz. Appropriation and Finance Accounts.
Indian P&T Accounts and Finance Services:
Assessment and Collection of License fee and Spectrum usage charges paid by Telecom Licenses. Spectrum Auction. Policy making in Department of Telecommunications and Department of Posts.Financial Management of Department of Posts and Department of Telecommunications. Internal Audit of Department of Telecommunications and Department of Posts. Accounting of Department of Posts and Department of Telecommunications. Pension Management of DoT, DoP, BSNL and MTNL.
They can also be appointed on deputation to Central Government, State Governments, Central Staffing Scheme, Autonomous Organizations/ Subordinate Organizations, PSUs and UN Organizations.
Indian Railway Traffic Service:
They coordinates the production and sale of transportation output and manages the customer interface of railways. ent is that of ensuring smooth and fast transportation of freight and passengers. He or she ensures optimum utilization of assets maximizing output with least inputs.an IRTS officer is connected with sales, pricing, marketing and service elements of the passenger business and freight business. An IRTS officer also has the opportunity to serve in other Ministries under the Central Staffing Scheme and in PSUs.
Indian Corporate Law Service:
ICLS officers broadly administer the Companies Act and Limited Liability Partnership Act and a few other allied acts, exercises the power regarding registration and regulation of companies/Limited Liability Partnership.
Indian Postal Services:
Effective management and monitoring of postal services and operations in the Division are under their job description. Further, administering control over all the Post Offices and Mail Offices in the Division. Planning for optimization and expansion of the postal network in the Division. Materials Management including upkeep and maintenance of Post Offices, Letter Boxes and Vehicles / Mail Vans, etc. Marketing of various products and services of India Post including Banking and Insurance Products, Customer relations and Public Grievance Redressal Mechanism Public Sector Undertakings as Chief Vigilance Officer either in the capacity of Director of Joint Secretary under non- Central Staff Scheme. Foreign Assignment or deputation with Universal Postal Union, Asia Pacific Postal Union, United National Development Programme.
Indian Railway Accounts and Personnel Service:
It happens to be the only service amongst the Central Group ‘A’ Civil Services catering exclusively to the Human Resources & Personnel Management discipline in the Central Government. Officers performs a significant and major role in all the activities of Indian Railways- those, which are directly connected with train operations, safety, productivity and earnings, as also the support activities for all departments of IR. Seniority, Reservation, transfer & Posting, Payments, Salary, Workers’ participation in Management, All Welfare Activities.
Indian Defence Estates Service:
The recruited officers here have to look after the management of Defence Lands measuring about 17.57 lakhs acres; Administration of 62 Cantonment Boards- the institutions of local self government- in as many cantonments notified under the Cantonments Act, 2006; Develop Cantonments as modern townships including provision of quality school education for all children, health care for all residents, social care system for the aged, differently abled and disadvantaged sections of society; Acquisition, Hiring, Requisitioning of immovable properties for defence purposes; Regular survey of defence land; Regular audit of defence land inter-alia to optimize its utilization; Maintenance of accurate, digitized record of lands, including regular updation; Maintenance of state of the art archives for holding old records including restoration and preservation of old/damaged paper records, and their conversion into more durable forms.
As per the recommendations of seventh pay commission, a raise of 14.27% in basic pay has been announced. Annual increment rate haz been set at 3%. The basic pay of all Civil Servants (Group A) are the same. And depending upon the job requirements, the other allowances may vary.
Basic salary for junior level IAS officers is Rs. 56100, after 7th Pay Commission’s Recommendations were approved. Each of the pay scales further consists of different pay bands. IAS officers may also be entitled to HRA, DA, TA etc. Same is applicable for all the other Group A services as well.
