NTA conducts the written exam and processes applications, but the medical examination, interview and final selection are handled separately by the individual Rashtriya Military Schools after the written test. Clearing RMS CET is the first step, not the final one.
Eligibility for Class 6 and Class 9 Admission
For Class 6 admission, a candidate must have passed Class 5 or be currently studying in it, and must be between 10 and 13 years old as on March 31, 2027 — meaning a date of birth between April 1, 2014 and March 31, 2017.
For Class 9 admission, a candidate must have passed Class 8 from a government-recognised school, and must be between 13 and 16 years old as on March 31, 2027 — a date of birth between April 1, 2011 and March 31, 2014. A six-month age relaxation is available for children of Armed Forces personnel killed in action.
Reservation for Girls
- For Class VI Admission – 10% seats or max 30 seats whichever is less (put together in all 05 RMSs) of total seats declared for the current CET.
- For Class IX Admission – 10% seats (put together in all 05 RMSs) of total seats declared for the current CET.

Exam Pattern
The Common Entrance Test (CET) for admission to Class VI & IX will be held on 13 December 2026. The exam will be based on Optical Mark Reader (OMR) based.
- Class VI: It will be of class V standard in subjects of Intelligence, General Knowledge, Mathematics & English.

Syllabus
Written test will generally be of Class V standard for Class VI admission and Class VIII standard for Class IX admission. The medium of Question Paper in the Entrance exam is bilingual (English and Hindi both) for Class VI and only in English for Class IX.
